Anadolu Isuzu joins the UN Global Compact

Turkey's commercial vehicle brand Anadolu Isuzu keeps adding new ones to its determined steps in line with its sustainability goals. The company took its place among the pioneering member companies by signing in the United Nations Global Compact, one of the most important corporate sustainability platforms in the world.

Turkey's commercial vehicle brand Anadolu Isuzu became a member by signing the United Nations' Global Compact initiative in line with its sustainability goals. UN Global Compact, Anadolu Isuzu supports by being one of its signatories, addresses the basic responsibilities of the business world concerning sustainability in line with the 10 basic principles it has determined regarding human rights, labor standards, environment and fighting against corruption. Companies that embrace these principles and support them by incorporating into their strategies, policies and procedures; not only fulfill their fundamental responsibilities to people and the world but also contribute to laying the groundwork for long-term success.

 

The Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact are derived from; the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

 

As one of the world's most prominent platforms in the field of corporate sustainability, the UN Global Compact, offers a framework for companies to fulfill their responsibilities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. In line with its sustainability objectives, UN Global Compact runs various programs to mobilize future business leaders, redesign business models and uncover new opportunities.

 

Anadolu Isuzu General Manager Tuğrul Arıkan said the following in his statement on the subject:

 

“As Anadolu Isuzu, we consider sustainability among our top priorities. We have taken numerous steps up to now, with the aim of minimizing the environmental impact of both the vehicles our company manufactures and all our operating processes. We attach special importance to developing and diversifying our product range with our zero-emission, fully electric models, as well as, 100 percent biogas compatible CNG engine alternative fuel models. We have also completed the transition to renewable energy in production to a large extent. We aim to further increase the use of innovative biomaterials in our vehicles in the coming period. We contribute to the circular economy with the practices we implement and continue our efforts with an approach that focuses on sustainability by adopting the zero-waste methodology. Finally, we are very honored and happy to be a member by signing the United Nations Global Compact initiative. With the awareness of our responsibility for the protection of the environment, we will continue to lead our industry by taking forward steps, realizing new projects, and actively taking our place in important initiatives, as we have done so far.”

 

Starting the first export of its fully electric medium-size coach NovoCITI Volt with France in 2021, Anadolu Isuzu won the "Sustainable Bus of the Year 2022" award in Europe with its alternative CNG fueled and 100% biogas compatible model Kendo/Interliner. In line with its sustainability goals, Anadolu Isuzu became one of the pioneering companies that signed the international Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), which strives against the negative effects of climate change and global warming, and committed to reduce emission levels. Anadolu Isuzu also participated in the “Drive to Zero” initiative, aiming to achieve 100% zero emissions in sales by 2040 in the commercial vehicle sector. Continuing its efforts to transition its production activities to green energy at a high rate, Anadolu Isuzu will meet 55 percent of the electricity required for manufacturing, from the photovoltaic solar power plant installed on the roofs of its production facilities in Çayırova, as of August 2022.
