Anadolu Isuzu raises the bar in production quality with the Smart Factory project brought to life in line with the company’s vision of digital transformation and Industry 4.0.

Turkey’s commercial vehicle manufacturer Anadolu Isuzu has successfully completed the first phase of its Smart Factory project brought to life in line with the company’s vision of digital transformation. While harnessing the power of 3D digital twins to ensure the management of the complex production flow and the large production spaces associated with the variability and diversity brought on by bespoke manufacturing, the Smart Factory project relies on internet of things (IoT) support to enable operator access to all the data related to customized product manufacture. Designed entirely in harmony with Anadolu Isuzu’s production spaces and work processes down to the most minute detail, the Smart Factory project was developed with advanced technological methods layer by layer from its planning to its implementation. The project stands out from its peers in the sector for its remarkable visuals and the level of detail achieved in the digital twins which provide a virtual representation that serves as a digital counterpart of the whole range of production processes. Thanks to its IoT infrastructure, the Smart Factory allows real-time monitoring of tools and processes with utmost precision. Departments such as logistics, manufacturing, quality, sales and export can have instant access to all of the information they need about production and deliveries. The project’s state-of-the-art functionalities contribute significantly to Anadolu Isuzu’s goal of paperless production by cutting down paper consumption considerably.

Anadolu Isuzu’s staff of specialist technicians and its internal assets played an active role throughout the development of the Smart Factory project. All the major components of the Smart Factory project such as the creation of detailed 3D plans, the integration of vehicle models into the project, the evaluation of the extensive field tests conducted on newly deployed functionalities, and communicating the latter to the business partners concerned were all accomplished using in-house capabilities.

What set Anadolu Isuzu’s Smart Factory apart from similar projects was its timely completion without any delays or problems despite the pandemic. Although it’s taken for granted across the world that digitalization projects require lengthy meetings in brick-and-mortar production facilities and offices, the software team tasked with the Smart Factory project of Anadolu Isuzu completed the whole process including factory walkthroughs and meetings totally online without any in-person visits right off the bat. A veritable success story all the way through, Anadolu Isuzu’s Smart Factory project won the “Best Innovation Project of the Year” award in the Innovation category in the global organization IDC.

Anadolu Isuzu General Manager Tuğrul Arıkan made the following comment on the completion of the Smart Factory project: “We have successfully brought to life the Smart Factory project we launched in line with our vision of digital transformation and Industry 4.0 here at Anadolu Isuzu. Our Smart Factory project is going to empower us even more in every field of competition in the market while supporting our goal of raising our production quality to greater heights. We’re going to strengthen our claim and presence in new markets with this achievement that reinforces our power of developing products tailored to customer requirements. We’re going to carry on as a trailblazer in our sector as we’ve been doing so far with our strides taken toward our vision of digital transformation and Industry 4.0.”
