Anadolu Isuzu, Turkey’s commercial vehicle brand, was once again recognized at the 8th Smart Transportation Awards. Anadolu Isuzu won the “Mobility Technology Award” with its project "Deep Learning-Based Safety Solution for Preventing Left Lane Occupation by Heavy Commercial Vehicles." The award was presented to Anadolu Isuzu R&D Electrical and Electronics Systems Director Birkan Atlamaz at a ceremony held on April 16th at Technopark Ankara.
Birkan Atlamaz, Anadolu Isuzu's R&D Electrical and Electronics Systems Director, made the following statement regarding the award: “We are proud to see our pioneering solutions, particularly those aimed at improving road safety, being recognized. This project, which combines advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and deep learning with transportation safety, is not only an R&D success but also a social responsibility initiative contributing to traffic safety and public welfare. With this award, we have once again demonstrated our leadership in R&D and technology. As Anadolu Isuzu, we will continue to invest in safer and smarter solutions.”
Leading the Industry with Artificial Intelligence-Based Safety Project
The entire development process of the "Deep Learning-Based Safety Solution for Preventing Left Lane Occupation by Heavy Commercial Vehicles" project was carried out by engineers in Anadolu Isuzu’s R&D team. Developed with the aim of addressing heavy traffic and increasing road safety issues, the project offers an AI-powered safety system to prevent heavy commercial vehicles from unnecessarily occupying the left lane. A prototype system was developed to prevent heavy commercial vehicle drivers from using the left lane unnecessarily and to encourage them to use the right lane instead.
The camera integrated into the vehicle analyzes lane markings, barriers, and other vehicles in real time, creating a data set. These data are processed using advanced deep learning algorithms to detect real-time left lane occupation. The system provides visual and auditory alerts to encourage drivers to stay in the right lane. Utilizing artificial intelligence and image processing technologies, the system aims to reduce unnecessary left lane occupation by heavy commercial vehicles, improve traffic flow, and prevent congestion that may occur in the left lane due to commercial vehicles.
